Belkofski Village
village, on S coast of Alaska Peninsula, 27 miles E of village of Cold Bay. Var. Belkoffkski, Belkoffsky, Belkoftski, Belkovsky, Selo Belkovskoe. Aleut village reported in 1847 on Russian Hydrog, Dept. chart 1379 as "S(elo) Belkovskoe" from "belka", meaning "squirrel". Its pop. was 102 in 1833, 268 in 1880, 185 in 1890, 147 in 1900, 129 in 1920, 123 in 1930, 140 in 1939 and 119 in 1950. The Belkofsky post office was established in 1888, discontinued in 1951. Today the village is abandoned, most villagers moved to King Cove, and then dispersed through out the Alaska Peninsula and Aleutian Chain.
